Villa Mimosa

Lovingly restored and extended well equipped holiday home with air conditioning in secluded area on the outskirts of Carovigno, 20 mins Brindisi airport, just over 1 hour Bari airport, bars/shops/restaurants 5 mins drive, 10 minutes to beach; ideal for peaceful getaway.

The villa is perfectly located for a quiet holiday within easy reach of the town, which can be seen from the garden and the roof terrace. However, a car is essential.

2 covered terraces offer shade for eating and relaxing. The terrace at the front of the villa was used by the people working the land for eating their lunch, and the curved stone seating benches are still there. Small cushions are provided to make the seats more comfortable. The side terrace is newly built with stone archways, and overlooks the swimming pool - the ideal place to watch the sunsets. The large sitting room has views through two double French doors to the terrace and the pool area. The roof terrace offers the perfect vantage to enjoy a chilled drink and enjoy the sunset. A small wooden table and two chairs are available for use on the roof terrace.

There is a very large selection of DVDs, from old favourites to new, and paperbacks, plus travel and information books and maps of the area. Also available Nintendo Wii with refundable security deposit. Enquire on booking.

Your surroundings: Part of the villa is well over 100 years old, and was originally built for use during olive harvest. It has been extended to the owners design, incorporating stelle volte stone ceilings in two rooms to echo the ceilings in the existing building and stone archways to the terrace. The area on which the villa stands is a protected zone with unusual traditional houses, each standing on approximately 2 acres of land. The villa is the only property which is inhabited on a regular basis at present, although two neighbouring houses are undergoing renovation by their owners. The lane on which the villa stands finally ends at a small nursery growing vegetables for local shops. Traffic is practically non existant.

"A beautiful villa in the quiet town of Carovigno, Villa Mimosa is perfect for a relaxing break away from it all. The villa is situated in a remote spot so I would definitely recommend hiring a car to get around. When we arrived, there was bread and milk left for us ready for breakfast, which was great. The villa is furnished with everything we needed including beach towels, which was great as it saved loads of space in the case. It also had a tv, dvd and stereo in the lounge and the kitchen was equipped to a very high standard, even including a couple of Italian cookery books. There were an abundance of fig trees – there were actually too many figs to eat. The weather was brilliant at the end of August and we were extremely grateful for the pool where we spent a lot of time. There are pool lights so you can have a midnight dip. The terrace was fantastic for eating al fresco and there was even an outdoor pizza oven. I recommend buying the freshly made pizza dough from the supermarket - delicious! Carovigno is a quaint town with some good restaurants. I recommend popping down early to the pasta shop to pick up some freshly made pasta. There is a local market where you can pick up anything from fruit and veg to clothes and handbags. As well as the local supermarkets there are a couple of hypermarkets about 30 minutes away – you can find pretty much anything you need there. We visited the local town of Ostuni (known as the white town), which was beautiful. It had a lovely square and narrow winding roads that lead up the hill towards a great sea view. There are some fantastic restaurants there serving delicious anti pasta, including some that have been built into the rocks. We also visited Alberobello with the traditional trulli houses and Castellana Grotte. Lecce is a fascinating historical town – it is well worth a look. The owners were very helpful and efficient with arranging the booking. All in all, Villa Mimosa completely lived up to the description. It was fantastic to stay somewhere so well equipped – we didn’t want for anything. The welcome food pack was wonderful as the flight got in quite late and it was great not to have to wake up early to go shopping. As the property is so rural it was extremely quiet – a perfect venue to get away from it all, relax, eat delicious food and drink the fine Puglia wine. I would highly recommend taking a break here – in fact I’m going back again!"
